Let's talk youth opportunity, community resilience, financial security and healthy communities.

Community Impact

Hello,

United Way of South Central Michigan is pleased to share the

2027–2028 Cultivating Economic Stability Grant opportunity

Kalamazoo Blueprint for Peace, Group 4: Cultivating Economic Stability

.

This funding opportunity is focused on strengthening the economic stability of people and families in Kalamazoo County, particularly households living below the

threshold. Funding will support work connected to critical basic needs, including:

Housing, Childcare, Transportation, and Community Partnerships

An important part of this opportunity is that we are looking for more than simply continuing existing programs. We are interested in

innovation, collaboration, and new approaches to persistent challenges

. That could mean testing a new idea, expanding something that has shown promise, bringing organizations together in a new way, or finding a creative approach to removing barriers that keep people from achieving greater economic stability.

A total of

. The grant period will run from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2028.

The application will open in e-CImpact on

, which includes information about eligibility, outcome indicators, funding considerations, the review process, and the full grant timeline. Because this opportunity has specific eligibility and alignment requirements, we strongly encourage organizations to connect with us before submitting an application. I’ve also heard from several organizations wanting to meet and talk through whether their work might be a fit. Before scheduling a conversation, here are three quick things that can help you determine whether this opportunity may be right for your organization:

Your organization/programming must serve people in Kalamazoo County and align with the Kalamazoo Blueprint for Peace goal of cultivating economic stability, particularly for households below the ALICE threshold.

The proposed work should address one or more of these areas and be able to connect to the outcome indicators outlined in the grant guide.

, rather than simply funding what an organization is already doing. This does not mean your idea has to be brand new or especially “innovative.” It could be expanding a successful program, creating additional childcare slots, adding transportation access, increasing housing support, or another way of clearly demonstrating what

will happen because of these funds.

If those three things describe what you are considering, feel free to apply.

, please feel free to reach out to me. I’m happy to talk through your idea and help determine whether it aligns with this funding opportunity.

We look forward to learning more about the work happening across Kalamazoo County and the ways we can continue building economic stability together.

 Thank you,
