VITA Volunteer Spotlight: Hui Hua
Q: How long have you volunteered with VITA? How did you find out about VITA?
A: “I have been volunteering with VITA since 2020. I saw information about the impact that VITA had in terms of the number of clients served and the amount of credits and refunds that they received each year, they really impressed me. Their defined impact was clear and explicit and it really drew me to volunteering with them."
Q: Do you have a background in accounting/taxes?
A: I used to be a librarian at MSU. I did work with data and I like numbers. They don’t scare me.
Q: What would you say to someone looking to volunteer with VITA?
A: "I would not say it (the training) was simple. It was thorough, at least at that time. I felt that I wanted to have a lot of training so I could do a good job and know what I was doing and be confident that I was doing things correctly.
My advice for anyone looking to volunteer with VITA is that there’s a lot of support in terms of both training and, once you get started, from staff and other volunteers. You do a lot of learning once you start preparing as well. I would say just jump in and kind of get your feet wet.”
