At El Concilio, Miley has supported Latinx Elementary students by assisting with their after-school tutoring program, providing academic support during homework time, mentoring youth, and serving as a positive role model. Miley has also helped create a welcoming and safe environment where youth feel supported academically, socially, and emotionally.
Miley has completed over 1,000 hours of community service throughout her high school career. Along with the El Concilio After-School Program & El Concilio events, programs that she has served include the Turn 2 Foundation, Comstock Mentoring, Latinas with Purpose, Key Club, and Executive Board at Loy Norrix High School. Her main focuses on volunteering have been food drives, clothing drives, local community events, and youth mentoring.
Providing consistent academic support, mentoring, and leadership at El Concilio, her reliability and initiative enhanced our program quality and supported their team during homework and enrichment activities.
While being a dedicated volunteer with El Concilio’s Afterschool Program for the past two academic school years, Miley consistently showed a deep commitment to supporting their students’ growth, development, and success. In particular, she had been extremely impactful with one of their students. She was consistent in encouraging this student to build confidence in her reading skills, stay focused on completing homework, and believe in her ability to improve academically.
Beyond her work with students, Miley consistently goes above and beyond for El Concilio. She is always willing to lend a hand, often staying after programs or events to help staff clean, organize materials, or prepare for the next activity. Miley’s kindness, leadership, and commitment make a meaningful difference in the lives of the students at El Concilio.
